LAHORE – A picture of a housemaid, sitting next to a dog inside the trunk of a private car, has caused a stir on social media.
The 15-year-old sitting next to the dog is just another example of how some people treat their domestic workers, especially those belonging to poor families. The car bearing number of LEB-11-8132 is registered in the name of Omer Ejaz Chaudhry, a resident of Lahore.
Domestic servants, housemaids in particular, remain vulnerable and subject to physical and emotional abuse. In 2010, 12-year-old housemaid Shazia Masih was also a victim of domestic torture after her employers tortured her, which resulted in her death.
