ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the National Security Committee discussed in detail the implementation of national action plan, the current law and order and internal security situation in Pakistan, the on-going operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorism, the regional affairs and the Indian atrocities in Indian-held Kashmir.
The committee met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House on Friday. The Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman, three services chiefs, federal ministers Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar ,Khawaja Asif and Pervez Rashid were also present at the meeting.
The meeting unanimously expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in the Indian-held Kashmir in the wake of brutal killing of the indigenous Kashmiri freedom fighter Burhan Wani.
The meeting strongly condemned the subsequent continuing brutal oppression of the Indian security forces over innocent Kashmiris who had been peacefully protesting against Wani’s killing.
While reiterating his condemnation over the continuous Indian oppression and human rights violations by the Indian forces in the region, the prime minister said that this brutal use of force is a blatant violation of fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people which no civilised society permits.
He said that the Indian attempt to claim that the deteriorating human rights situation in the region is an internal affair of India is factually incorrect, legally untenable and indeed a violation of the international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
He said that the legitimate freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people has seen several generations wherein the Kashmiris have rendered matchless sacrifices. “It is our conviction that by suppressing the voice of Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination, India will not be able to legitimize its occupation in the Indian-held Kashmir.”
He said that the only plausible solution of the Kashmir issue would be the early implementation of the UNSC resolution that was a fair and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices. We have provided and will continue to provide diplomatic, political and moral support to the people of Jammu Kashmir for the realisation of their fundamental right to self-determination in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, he reaffirmed.
The meeting resolved that Pakistan would approach the United Nations Human Rights Council on its own behalf and on the behalf of the OIC Contact Group on Kashmir to send a fact finding mission to the region for investigating the slaughter of innocent civilians and to impose a ban on the use of pellet guns for dispersing people exercising their right to protest.
The meeting unanimously called upon the international community to condemn these blatant human rights violations by the Indian forces and play their role in ensuring the realisation of the human rights of the Kashmiri people through fulfilling its commitments towards the people of Jammu Kashmir under the UNSC resolutions.
While lauding the relentless and unmatched contributions and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and security personnel, particularly in the on-going Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the meeting expressed satisfaction over the gains achieved so far in effectively ensuring national security.
The meeting reaffirmed its resolve against the complete elimination of terrorism and extremism from Pakistan. It appreciated role of the military and the civil intelligence agencies against the nefarious designs of the international agencies and hostile countries.
The meeting decided that effective border management system between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be introduced and enforced as it is in the interest of both the countries. PM Nawaz met the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif here on Friday who called on him here at the PM House. “Matters pertaining to regional and internal security were discussed,” a statement issued from the PM House said.
