SRINAGAR: Hurriyet leaders have strongly condemned the continued siege of a historic Jamia Masjid in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) – apart from the leaders’ detention and house arrests.
The All Parties Hurriyet Conference said that stopping an individual from performing his or her religious obligations was a gross violation of human rights and interference in the personal and religious matters.
“Forceful subjugation and brutal acts of oppression neither had rescued that mind-set nor could it delay the disfigurement and defacement of present so-called rulers,” said a press release issued on Saturday.
The Hurriyet forum Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Mirwaiz also criticised the authorities for crushing the people’s human and political rights by the on-going raids, arresting the youth, beating inmates and ransacking homes.
He urged the authorities to immediately stop the brutal rights violations and lauded the resolve of the people during the on-going freedom movement despite the worst kind of Indian state terrorism.
