KARACHI: The administrative Judge of the Anti Terrorism Courts (ATCs) Karachi Division accepted a charge sheet against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and 13 others for their involvement in August 22ndviolence and transferred the case to ATC-II for further trial.
The investigation officer (IO) of the Artillery Ground police station submitted the challan of two FIRs lodged under Anti Terrorist Act and 25 telegraph act and in this connection Kanwar Naveed Jamil, Shahid Pasha, Qamar Mansoor and 21 others have already been arrested.
However, Dr Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan and others are nominated as absconders. The FIR was registered on August 22nd when violence took place in the Artillery Ground police area during the hunger strike of MQM.
According to the charge sheet, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain delivered provocative speech in which he targeted national sovereignty, criticized law enforcement agencies and encouraged his activists to attack media houses.
Following Altaf217;s instructions, the party workers stormed the streets of the area, torched a Police Mobile and a motor bike. The Challan further states that the MQM workers opened fire on the law enforcers and on general public, resultantly Arif Khan was killed and several others sustained injuries.
According to the findings of the IO, arrested suspects Kanwar Navid, Mansoor Pasha and others have confessed their involvement in the August 22nd unrest and their participation in anti-state slogans.
In this case, three women workers of MQM217;s ladies wing were also arrested who were released on bail.
