PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Health Dr Hisham Inamullah has said all institutions are answerable to the public and the government is accountable because they are running affairs with public money.
He was presiding over a meeting of directors of medical teaching institutes (MTIs) on Friday in which he discussed in detail human resource data of doctors and other para-medic staff working in KP.
It was decided that all the MTIs should submit their data on prescribed pro forma to the Health Department before January.
“The aim of the whole exercise was to collect the detail of all employees of Health Department specially the healthcare personnel and depute them judiciously in all parts of the province so that provision of healthcare facilities could be ensured to all inhabitants at their doorstep,” he remarked.
For the purpose, domiciles, particulars and qualification with specialties and spouse status are being collected so that human resources are posted in their native districts or nearby area, he added.
The minister told the meeting that doctors and other technical staff would not be posted as they want rather they should be posted where they are needed.
The meeting also discussed salient features of amended MTI Act, recently passed by the KP Assembly wherein all MTIs were made answerable to the provincial government.
Meanwhile, the two-day Tribal Districts Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI) review meeting was held here on Friday, which was chaired by Coordinator EOC KP and Coordination Unit Tribal Districts Capt (r) Kamran Ahmed Afridi, and attended by deputy commissioners of tribal districts, district health officers, n-stop officers, polio eradication officers and district health communication support officers.
In the meeting, overall progress and efforts made by district administration, law enforcement agencies and district polio control rooms were appreciated.
The EOC coordinator expressed satisfaction made so far but said there was more to be done to completely eliminate polio virus.
“For the purpose, out of the box thinking is required to reach and vaccinate every child; especially in far flung areas, and objective/solution-oriented approach is needed to further improve performance in low performing areas.”
He said that “improved performance should bring about better and parallel results that are needed to be sustained”.
The chair said that “consistent quality campaign during low season was the objective for complete eradication of polio virus from tribal districts”.
During the meeting, it was discussed that a mechanism for performance audit will be introduced in tribal districts and all low performers who are affecting the quality of campaign shall be sorted out. Deputy commissioners were asked to start performance audit along with the team leads.
The coordinator said all team leads of EOC at secretariat and district level would be responsible for establishing a close liaison among all stakeholders.
