LAHORE: A photographic exhibition on evolution of major cities in Pakistan was held at the Government College University Lahore in connection with the 8th THAAP Conference on Saturday. “The city is not a soulless mass of infrastructure and debris. It is like an organism grows, develops and becomes changed, so this year the Trust for History, Arts and Architecture, Pakistan (THAAP) and GCU Lahore are holding this international conference on the theme of “The City: An Evolving Organism”, a topic which needs serious deliberations,” said THAAP Director Prof Pervaiz Vandal while inaugurating the photographic exhibition. The conference, spread over eight technical sessions, is being held in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission. As many as 51 photographs on life in major cities of Pakistan were put on display at the exhibition, which was attended by people from all walks of Life. Pervaiz Vandal said the city was not simply about building and rebuilding an infrastructure, its primary concern must be the state of people’s life. He appreciated the work of photographers who, he said, played an important role in preserving the social, cultural and economic history of cities. Trust for History, Arts and Architecture, Pakistan Chief Executive Prof Sajida Haider Vandal said that this photographic exhibition presented a selection of visual documents on the impact of never-ending expansion and evolution of urban areas on its inhabitants and their environment. ”
